Last weekend I saw a show called Lend Me A Tenor at the Paper Mill Playhouse. What threw me originally was that it is NOT a musical. This is actually an English farce. Basically what that boils down to is a live action comedy. Boy did it live up to the name. It was hilarious! Not only was it clever, this was definitely the first time I have been in an audience that was laughing at being spit on. I know right? They launched grapes at us during spit takes. Very unique. Set in an Ohio hotel suite in 1934, the show was about a wannabe singer who will do anything to live his dream and impress his “fiancĂ©”. One cast member really needs to be mentioned here. His name is Michael Kostroff. Kostroff’s over the top acting and facial expressions were perfect for the role. Though I was unsure at first, this turned out to be a wonderful experience and I would see another farce anytime. B+ for Lend Me A Tenor.
I really am missing Downton Abbey. I wish I could see the next season already. But, even more, I would love to see Game of Thrones. That show is outstanding and has some great surprises. Another quick note before I go. I have recently been checking out Sherlock from the BBC network. Really wonderful acting. The lead, Benedict Cumberbatch, is phenomenal and reminds me a bit of Matt Smith. Be sure to check it out.
Have a good Sunday night all.
