As mentioned previously, this will be several short reviews of Christmas presents I have watched already.
Bleach: Memories of Nobody is well, a Bleach movie. There isn’t too much I can say about it. They introduce a new character, some cool fighting is shown, and you are left wondering could they have done a bit more? When I first started watching Bleach, there was such promise within the show. It really could have become something much deeper then what it actually is. Disappointing would be the wrong word because it is actually a good show, just not what I want it to be. I don’t want to go too deep within the actual television series or manga, because despite its short comings, I do enjoy it quite a bit, so just the first movie itself will be rated. I wanted to really like it because it has glimpses of good entertainment, but I have to stick it with a C-.
The next movie is called Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror. It’s about a girl named Haruka, who loses a mirror that her dying mother gives her. There is a Japanese legend that says foxes take things people no longer find precious to them. To get things back, you have to give them tributes, normally eggs. The movie is about her delving into the world of Oblivion Island and she re-learns what is really important in life. This is such a cute and wonderful kids movie. The artwork is fantastic. Most of it is done with CGI though some backgrounds are drawn. Oblivion Island is fun, beautiful, and though a bit sad at points, will leave you smiling in the end. B+ to it.
Besides anime I also love sports. One of my favorites is wrestling and one of my all time favorite wrestlers is CM Punk. One of my many presents was his documentary, Best in the World. This was one of the most honest, and informative documentaries I have ever watched. Now, I haven’t gotten to the matches but I am really looking forward to them. There were great interviews and obscure footage all of which, as a huge fan, I ate right up. It spans the entirety of his wrestling career and also delves into his personal life which fans rarely, if ever, get to know about. Not much else to say besides if you are a CM Punk fan or just a wrestling fan, buy it. A+. That means buy it now, go!
I also was given a ton of great books, a gift certificate for my Nook, a cert for Starbucks (love them), an awesome pocket watch that you can see the inner gears, a porcelain mini gingerbread house, some more movies and anime which I have not yet watched, and really nice clothing, of which a blue Under Armor sweatshirt for when I exercise is my favorite.
Oh and just as a short add-on to this post. I wanted to comment on Where the Wild Things Are. I used to read the book with my Mom when I was little and I had a stuffed animal so I felt it fitting we should watch it together. So we sat down today just the two of us so it would be a special thing… One of the most awful, terrible, not suitable for children movies I have ever seen. At one point she looked over to me and asked, “Was this in the book? I don’t remember this.”. No, it was not in the book. The movie is too dark, too glorifying of anger and violence, just too bad in general. Do not see this movie. D- and they are lucky I don’t give it an F. A bit harsh, but I feel better.
There are a few things I will have for review this coming Saturday so keep a look out for it. Enjoy the holiday and be safe!
